Broos announces Bafana AFCON preliminary squad

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] tournament. The CAF tournament is set to start on 21 December 2025 until 18 January 2026 in Morocco.

South Africa are in group B of the competition. The Group also consists of Egypt, Zimbabwe and Angola.

Bafana will play their opening match against Angola on December 22, 2025, at the Grand Stade de Marrakech. The modern stadium, with a capacity of 41,245, is equipped with world-class facilities.

They will face Egypt at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir on Boxing Day. Their last group B fixture will be against neighbours Zimbabwe at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on 29 December 2025.

The 24 qualified teams were divided into six groups of four. The top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout stage.
