Maples’ buzzer beater sends VCA to CIF-SS semifinals
Robinson Maples put the game in his hands as he made a layup at the buzzer to give Valley Christian Academy a 53-51 win over Loma Linda Academy on Tuesday night.
Maples finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.
“I was really hyped,” Maples said. “We did four across because we thought they were in a man press and went down the court and made it. I never hit sas buzzer beater like that before.”
The Lions started the game with an 11-2 lead but Loma Linda came back to take a 25-24 halftime lead.
Valley Christian held a four-point lead in the fourth quarter that was extended to as many as six points with about two minutes left.
Loma Linda responded when it made two free throws with six seconds left to tie the game at 51-51.

Elijah Edick added 16 points while Dylan Smith added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Valley Christian will travel back down to the Inland Empire to face Colton.
OA boys basketball makes first ever CIF semifinal appearance
The Orcutt Boys basketball team made history last night as it defeated Dos Palos 47-43 to advance to the CIF-Central Div. 6 semifinals.
Nathan Malone led the offense with 20 points and three rebounds while senior Driscoll Johnson was a defensive presence on the other end of the basket with six steals.
The Spartans will now travel to Orosi High School today for a chance to play in the championship game.
