Spurs close to agreeing shock deal to sign Liverpool star | Shoot

Tottenham Hotspur will hope to build on their midweek Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund when they face struggling Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Frank is under immense pressure in north London with his side currently sitting 14th in the top flight standings, although a 2-0 win over Dortmund on Tuesday night may have eased that slightly.

The Dane only arrived at Spurs last summer, but his side have been dismal in the Premier League so far this term, with their home form in the competition a particular concern.

Away from the action, though, it has emerged that the Lilywhites are working on a shock deal to sign a Liverpool star.

As per The Athletic, Spurs are working on the signing of Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson this month.

The Scot is in the final six months of his current contract with the Reds, and it is claimed that Tottenham were initially planning to sign the defender as a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Spurs are now working on a potential deal to sign the left-back before the end of the January window, though, with Liverpool also said to be willing to allow the Scotland international to leave Anfield this month.

Robertson, 31, joined Liverpool from Hull City back in 2017, for a fee of just £8 million.

He went on to establish himself not only as one of the best full-backs in Europe, but also as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s recent history.

In total, the Scottish defender has made more than 360 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, providing 68 assists.

The report suggests that there is a mutual desire across all parties to agree a deal in the coming days, with Robertson otherwise set to depart Anfield as a free agent this summer.
